Alar M. Burkes (nee Card), age 57 of Lorain, passed away unexpectedly on December 11, 2020 at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
Born November 28, 1963 to Charles and Mary (nee Fountain) Card, Alar spent her entire life in Lorain. She graduated from Admiral King and went on to Lorain Community College where she received a degree in medical billing and coding. She also received a Medical Assistant degree from JVS. Following college, she went on to work for Dr. Getachew’s office in Lorain for many years and also for Riddell in North Ridgeville.
She loved music, cooking, dancing, Chinese art and culture and B-rated movies. Above all, she loved her family, spending time with her siblings and spoiling her grandchildren.
Surviving is her husband of over 30 years, Sean Burkes; children, Nate (Jaslyn) Burkes, Preston Burkes, Ceanna Burkes, Anastasia Burkes and Michael (Angelique) Burkes; grandchildren, Serena, Janiya, Natai, Jalin and Laylah as well as her siblings, Margaret, Sheila, James, Thomas, Milton, Gwen, Rose, Janette, Dorothy and Lavonne.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents as well as her brother, Freddie.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 17 from 4 – 6 p.m. to celebrate Alar’s life in the Dovin Funeral & Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Social distancing will be followed.
