Alice M. Berstling (nee Horak), 76, of Lorain, died Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Lorain Specialty Hospital, Amherst, following a brief illness.
She was born April 21, 1934 in Lorain, where she lived her entire life. After graduating from Lorain High in 1952, Alice worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Minich until 1957. In 1973, she graduated from the St. Joseph School of Nursing. She worked as a licensed practical nurse at St. Joseph Hospital until 1975, then for Anchor Lodge Retirement Center until retiring in 1978.
Alice was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter, Lorain, the Holy Trinity Mothers Club, and the National Association of Practical Nurses.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing, shopping, gardening and spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She was known for her loving and generous nature.
Surviving are her sons, Robert M. of Lorain, and Andrew S. (Kellie) of Grafton; a daughter, Marjorie A. Berstling of Toledo; grandchildren, Jennifer Henthorn, Jodie Krueger, and Aidan Berstling; and a brother, Robert (Cathy) Horak of North Olmstead.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Robert, in 2002; her parents, Fred Horak in 1971, and Mary (nee Vrabel) Horak in 1975; and her daughter, Marie Krueger in 2008.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 am in the funeral home, followed by mass at 11:00 am at the Catholic Church of St. Peter. Rev. Fr. Craig Hovanec, pastor, and her cousin, Rev. Fr.
