Amalio Rodriguez, 79, of Lorain, died Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Oak Hills Nursing Center, Lorain following a lengthy illness.
Born May 3, 1929 in Lares, Puerto Rico; he came to Lorain in 1949 where he has lived since.
He worked as the manager of Kysel Greenhouse in Rocky River for 16 years, retiring in 1970. Prior to that, he worked for New York Central Railroad repairing railroad tracks.
Amalio was a baseball fan, and loved to play cards, dominoes, and watch all kinds of sports. He also enjoyed refinishing furniture.
Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Marciana (nee Mercado): sons, James of Katy, TX, Edwin of Pensacola, FL, and Amalio Jr. of Noblesville, IN; daughters, Minerva Ocasio and Isabel Rodriguez-Silva both of Lorain; 26 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren; a brother, Jesus Rodriguez of Wisconsin; sisters, Matilda Soto of Lares, Puerto Rico, Josefa Diaz of Arecibo, Puerto Rico, Agustina Lopez and Generosa Rodriguez both of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andres Rodriguez in 1972 and Maria (nee Camacho) Rodriguez in 1980; a daughter, Santa Hilda who died at birth in 1958.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 to 9:00 pm at the House of Praise International, 4321 Elyria Ave, Lorain, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 am. Rev. Gilbert Silva, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain is handling the arrangements.
