Amos "Bud" Hensley

June 4, 1930 — August 27, 2007

Amos "Bud" Hensley, age 77, of Sheffield Lake, died on Monday, August 27, 2007 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center - West, following a brief illness.


He was born on June 4, 1930 in Lakewood, Ohio, living in Lorain County most of his life.


He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, in the 101st Airborne. He earned the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars.


Bud was employed in the Quality Control dept of GM, in Elyria for 29 years, retiring in 1988.


He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, Sheffield Village.


He enjoyed watching Ohio State Football, sports, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.


He is survived by his wife of 37 years: Joan (nee Zimmerman), sons: Robert "Sponge" Hensley, Brian Hensley, both of Lorain, Bob Burkhardt, of Jacksonville, Florida and Jim Burkhardt, of Medina, daughter: Debbie Brockett (nee Burkhardt) of Alliance, Ohio, 10 grandchildren and brother: Wayne Hensley, Dallas, Texas.


He is preceded in death by his parents: Amos and Alvina (nee Young) Hensley.


The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 from 6-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be held at 8:15 p.m. Rev. Fr. Robert Franco, pastor of St. Theresa Catholic Church, will officiate.


Graveside services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. Full military honors will be held.
