Angelo Bangas, age 79, of Lorain, died on Friday, June 15, 2007 in the Emergency Room at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center - West.
He was born on March 12, 1928 in Lorain and was a lifelong resident.
He was a graduate of Lorain High School and Baldwin Wallace College. He received a masters degree from Kent State University.
He served in the United States Army as a staff sergeant in the Korean War.
Angelo was a coach and teacher at both Clearview and Lorain High School and was also a teacher and athletic director at Brookside High School. He was inducted into the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame in 1980.
He was devoted to his family and grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing, coaching, and being involved with all sports throughout his life. He had a special passion for golf.
He is survived by his son: Tom of Chagrin Falls, daughters: Andrea Currence, Patty Sauvey, both of Lorain and Jan Mitchell, of Avon Lake, 5 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter, brother: John "Tony" Bangas of Vermilion and sister: Helen Poprock of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years: Jean (nee Cica) Bangas in 2005, parents: Andrew and Ruth (nee Engle) Bangas, sisters: Barbara Bangas, Catherine Bair and Jean Farkas, and an infant brother, Anthony.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 18, 2007 from 4-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where services will be held at 7:30 p.m.
