Augustine "Gus" Garcia, Jr., age 61, of Lorain, died on Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at Community Health Partners HSC - West, following a sudden heart attack.
He was born on March 11, 1946, in Lorain, where he remained a lifelong resident. He was a 1964 graduate from Admiral King High School.
Gus was a long-time member and employed through the Plumber and Steamfitters Local #42. He most recently worked at and retired from General Motors as a pipefitter. He previously worked as an orderly at St. Joseph Hospital and worked in the shipyard.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel where he was an altar boy and a member of the Guadalupe Society, as well as the Youth Chicanos.
Gus was a member of the Mexican Mutual Club and the American Slovak Club. He had enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He had also enjoyed playing cards, target shooting, telling jokes, dancing, dinning out, and playing his accordion.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Brenda K. (nee Franklin), of Lorain, his daughters; Deborah Malko, of Las Vegas, NV, Christine Folley, of Millbury, OH, and Jennifer Hoban, of Cleveland, his son, Matthew Garcia, of Lorain, 7 grandchildren, brothers; Daniel Garcia, of San Antonio, TX and Marco Garcia, of Lorain, sisters; Rita Garcia, Patricia Dickinson, Olga Sanchez, and Helen Garcia, all of Lorain, and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Augustine, Sr. and Helen (nee Delgado) Garcia.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 27, from 5-9 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Friends will also be received on Saturday, from 8:30 until 9:30 am, at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. The funeral mass will be at 9:30 am at Church. The Rev. Fr. William Thaden will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
