Benjamin J. Argenti Sr

August 6, 1926 — October 9, 2006

Benjamin J. Argenti Sr, 80, of Lorain, died Tuesday, October 9, 2006 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center - West, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.


He was born August 6, 1926 in Palmer, PA, he came to Lorain in 1949 where he was lived since.


He served in the US Navy as a fireman 1st class during World War II aboard the USS Melvin R. Nawman, USS Chara, and the USS Leray Wilson. He received the Pacific Theater Ribbon with 5 stars, American Theater Ribbon, the Victory Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.


Ben retired in 1981 with over 20 years as an assembler at the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant. Prior to this, he worked for B & O Railroad for 13 years.


He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Lorain, the United Auto Workers Union Local 425, the Italian American Veterans Post 1, and was a life member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars in Uniontown, PA.


He enjoyed his grandchildren, working in the yard, mechanics and roses.


Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Margaret A. (nee Hostetler); sons, Benjamin Jr. of Lorain, William of Huron, and Paul of Vermilion; a daughter, Denise Steele of Lorain; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; brothers, William Argenti and August Argenti both of Lorain; a sister, Frances Sobek of Uniontown, PA.


He was preceded in death by his parents, August Argenti and Grace (nee Coville) Argenti; a daughter, Grace in 1951; a brother, Peter Argenti; and sisters, Nellie Tillman and Sara Lake.


The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Funeral services begin Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Carson Fraley officiating, followed by mass at 10:00 am at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Homewood Dr. and Grove Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. Thomas Smith, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.


The Veteran of Foreign Wars, Post #451 will conduct full military honors.
