Candido R. Cardona

Candido R. Cardona, age 89, of Lorain, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at St. John West Shore Hospital, Westlake, after a lengthy illness.

He was born on November 16, 1916 in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico, and had moved to Lorain in 1948, where he resided for the remainder of his life.

Candido was employed at the US Steel Plant as a Chemistry Technician for over 50 years, before retiring in 1980. Before moving to Lorain, he was self employed in Puerto Rico.

He was a member of the Templo Ebenezer. In 1997, he was recognized by the Puerto Rican community for his 50 years of dedicated service to the Steel Mill. Candido was also one of the first members of the Puerto Rican Home. He enjoyed writing Christian music, which some of his songs have been used around the world at various missionaries. He also enjoyed carpentry work and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Aida (nee: Cortes), his son, Eliseo Cardona, of Churchland, VA, his daughters; Noemi (Amy) Vasiloff, of Avon Lake, and Elizabeth (Lisa) Aruca, of St. Petersburg, FL, his 8 grandchildren, his 6 great granddaughters, and his sisters; Claudina Jimenez, of San Sebastian, Puerto Rico, and Maria V. Perez, of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Juanita Ahmad, in 2000, a grand daughter, Nicole Vasiloff, in 2006, his parents; Juan Cardona, in 1955, and Felipa (nee: Ruiz), in 1974, his brothers; Teodoro Cardona, February 2003, Pedro, in 1946, Pablo, in 1947, Juan, in 1984, Seberiano, in 1987, Juan de Dios, in 1997, and his sisters; Josefina, in 1940, Maria, in 1950, Hortencia, in 1978, Ignasia, in 1985, Hortencia Echandia, in 2006.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 28 2006, from 2-4 and 7-9, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Rogelio Rivera, Pastor of the Templo Ebenezer, officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
