Carl J. Fischer, 79, of Lorain, died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain, following a short illness.
He was born October 21, 1931 in Penfield, Ohio. Carl graduated from Wellington High School in 1952, and then enlisted in the US Army, serving 3 years with the 107th Armored Cavalry Regiment. Following the service, he moved to Lorain, where he has lived since.
Carl worked as a foreman at the National Gypsum Company in Lorain, retiring in 1998. He was a member the former St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Lorain, and the former Lorain Liedertafel Club. He enjoyed sports and carpentry.
Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Irene (nee Posze); sons, David of Cincinnati, Carl Jr. of Parma, and Frank of Ocean Spring, Miss.; four grandchildren; a sister, Mary Tobin of Tarentum, Pa.,
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary (nee Kramer) Fischer; a brother, Frank; and a sister Rose Schultz.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 9:30 am in the funeral home, followed by mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Robert Glepko, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
