Carl Rak, age 79, of Lorain, died on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at his residence, while under the care of New Life Hospice, following a lengthy illness.
Carl was born on July 23, 1929 in Lorain, where he resided his entire life.
In his early years, he was also known as "Toots'" and had a remarkable sense of humor. He was employed as a store manager for Convenient Food Mart.
Carl was a member of St. John Roman Catholic Church. He enjoyed stamp collecting and collecting coins.
He is survived by his sons, Carl (Georgine), of Lakewood, Francis (Missy), of Lorain, and Craig, of KY, 8 grandchildren; Craig, Jennifer, Kimberly, Melanie, Danielle, Christen, Sierra, and Sabrina, and 2 great granddaughters; Gabriella and Audrey.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Gloryann L. (nee Lavish) Rak, died on October 15, 1999, grandson, Jason, in 1981, parents, Carl and Anna (nee Cuelar) Rak, sister, Ann Zahorek in 2002, and his brother, Peter in 1997.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 20, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Mass at St. John Roman Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain. The Rev. Fr. Thomas Smith, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to either, New Life Hospice, 5255 North Abbe Road, Elyria, OH 44035, or to the St. John's Endowment Fund, 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain, Ohio 44055.
