Carl A. Saegert, age 73, of Lorain, died on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria, after an unexpected illness.
He was born on August 14, 1934 in Elyria. He had lived in Lorain County for his entire life. He attended Lorain schools. Carl was in the United States Army from 1951 until 1955.
He was employed at US Steel as an expeditor in the shipping department for about 10 years, before retiring. Prior to that, he was a pipe inspector there for over 30 years. Throughout his younger years, he worked for A.G. Stiwald Roofing.
Carl enjoyed hunting, especially at his hunting cabin in PA. He also enjoyed fishing, building and riding motorcycles, coaching and playing softball, boating, and water skiing.
Surviving is his spouse of 55 years, Margaret R. (nee Dargo), 4 sons; Carl A., Jr, Kevin, Thomas, and Al, 4 grandchildren; April Fields, Julie Saegert, Mark Saegert, and Zak Saegert, 1 great granddaughter, Morgan Fields, and 4 brothers; James, Dale, Eugene, and Edwin.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Renee Susan Saegert, parents; Carl A. and Florence (nee White) Yepko, grandparents; Nina and Aura White, and a sister, Carol Saegert.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 1, from 9:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 am in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Rev. John Slatcoff, Deacon of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, with full military honors provided by the DAV Honor Guard.
