Carmelo S. Rivera

Carmelo S. Rivera, age 100, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022 at his residence following a short illness.

Born August 23, 1921 in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, he came to Lorain in 1948 when he was recruited to work at US Steel. Carmelo retired from US Steel in 1983 as a freight train engine controller after 35 years of service.
Carmelo moved to Florida in 1990 where he resided until returning to Lorain in 2015.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain and the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104.
Carmelo enjoyed fishing, bike riding and was a pretty good domino’s player.
Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Ana (nee Calderon); sons, Herson of Lorain, David (Bonnie) of Denver and John (Tari) of Cleveland; daughters, Roxanna Rivera and Elva Rivera both of Lorain, and Carmen Rivera of Florida; sixteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and eleven great great-grandchildren; sisters, Luisa Pagan of Grafton and Teresa Velez of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Maria (nee Soto) Rivera; and seven sisters.
Carmelo’s wishes were to be cremated
