Casimir "Chuck"Szarek, age 86 of Lorain, died on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at Kingston of Vermilion Nursing Home, Vermilion.
He was born on October 4, 1919 in Lorain, where he lived his entire life.
He was employed at the Ohio Edison Company, Edgewater Plant in Lorain for 35 years, Chuck was in management and worked as a shift engineer. A World War II Veteran, he served proudly in the United States Navy in the South Pacific under the 118th Construction Battalion of the Sea Bees. Chuck was a fast pitch softball player for various teams including the UPC and the OPS. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, boating and traveling.
Chuck was a member of the Moose Club, Ohio Edison's Men's Club, and the IAV. He attended St. Stanislaus Church in Lorain and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was previously a member of Nativity Church for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years: Helen (nee Sender), sons: Alan C. Szarek, of Lorain, Bob Szarek of Westlake, step-son: James Woltman of Lorain, step-daughter: Donna Abend (nee Woltman) of Newark, Ohio, 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Stencil and Magdalena (nee Ziemba) Szarek, a step daughter: Carol Jane Woltman, and sisters: Judy Cain and Bernice Brestovansky.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a 10:00 a.m. mass at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Kevin Shemuga, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
