Catherine Arebalo, (nee Rangel), age 86 of Lorain, died Monday, October 03, 2005 at her residence while under the care of New Life Hospice, following a brief illness.
She was born May 17, 1919 in Thurber, Texas; she has lived in Lorain since 1924, coming from Texas.
She had been employed as a floor manager for the former Joseph and Feiss in Lorain, for 12 years retiring in 1977, and had worked at the Lorain Works U.S. Steel in maintenance for a number of years. She had also managed along with her late husband-Lupe, a Mexican Restaurant in the 1940's here in Lorain.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain and St. John Catholic Church, Lorain, and the Society of the Virgin Guadalupe and the Mexican Mutual Society. She had also been involved with PTA as a representative.
Catherine was a foster parent for many years. She loved to read health literature, playing bingo and knitting. She enjoyed making Tamales for family and friends at Christmas and also enjoyed hosting Taco Parties at her home for family and friends.
Surviving is her son, Jose Guadalupe Arebalo of Lorain; daughters, Mary Ann Strain and Ana Arebalo, both of Lorain; 3 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Guadalupe J. "Lupe" Arebalo in 1991; her daughter, Nancy Ann Arebalo in 1967; parents, Gabino T. Rangel in 1979 and Maria (nee Oleba) Arebalo in 1921; a brother, Blas Rangel in 1977, and 2 sisters- Barbara and Micaela Rangel who both died at birth.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 form 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where services will be held on Thursday at 8:45 a.m. followed by mass at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Wm. Thaden, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
