Catherine M. Resek

August 10, 1920 — September 22, 2008

Catherine M. Resek, (nee Paterson) 88, of Newcomerstown, Ohio and formerly of Lorain, died Tuesday, September 22, 2008 at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge, Ohio.


She was born August 10, 1920 in Lorain, living here most of her life before moving to Amherst in 1977. In 2004 she moved to Newcomerstown where she has lived since.


She was a graduate of Lorain High School, class of 1938A and Oberlin Business College. She enjoyed quilting and reading.


She worked for Higbee's as a credit cashier in the credit office for 16 years retiring in 1988. Prior to that, she worked for the Lorain Credit Bureau for 8 years and Young Timers Shop, Lorain, for 6 years. She had also worked as a ship fitter helper for American Ship Building during World War II.


Catherine was a long time member of Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church, Lorain.


She is survived by her son, William J. "Bill" Resek of Newcomerstown, Ohio; a daughter, Janet Reichert of Grafton; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; and a sister, Eileen Pliske of Osceola, Florida.


She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, John Resek Jr. in 1968; her parents, William H. Paterson and Jessie M. (nee Thomson) Paterson; and a brother, John Paterson.


The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Rev. Greg Sellers, pastor of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
