Cecilia L. Tornabene (nee Oravec), 91 of Elyria, passed away Monday, January 20, 2014 at Oak Hills Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
Born January 12, 1923 in Lorain, she lived in Lorain until moving to Elyria in 2010. Cecilia graduated from Lorain High School and during World War II she worked for American Crucible in Elyria.
She was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Lorain, and enjoyed crocheting, gardening, baking, sewing, and puzzles. She was the caregiver of the family. For many years, Cecilia made baby and children quilts anonymously for Birthright in Lorain and Cornerstone Among Women in Elyria.
Surviving is her son, Joseph (Mary) of Elyria; grandchildren, Roelf Tornabene and Vanessa Pappas; and 2 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Joseph in 2011; a son, Tom; a daughter, Dorothy Tornabene; parents, Adolph and Mary (nee Soltis) Oravec; brothers, Frank, Joe, John, Eddie, Tony, Sylvester, and Adolph; sisters, Mary Baker and Clara Oravec.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue., Lorain, where funeral services will be Friday at 9:30 am followed my mass at 10:00 am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 418 W. 15th Street, Lorain. Rev. Robert Glepko, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
