Charles Combs, 70, of Sheffield Lake, died Monday, July 18, 2005 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center West, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
Born March 17, 1935 in Combs, KY, he moved to Lorain in 1952.
He served in the US Marines Corps for 4 years in the 1950's having received the National Defense Ribbon, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal.
He retired from Lorain Works US Steel in 1988, where he worked as a brakeman in the Bop Shop for 31 years.
He was a member of the Sheffield Church of God, Sheffield Lake, and the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104. He was a past member of the Sheffield Lake zoning board.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to his cabin in Piedmont, Ohio and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife of 18 years, Carmella (nee Baisden), daughters, Linda Greenhill and Roberta Roberts both of Sheffield Lake, step children, Glenna Webber of Grafton, Pamela Fetty of Sheffield Lake, Scott Baisden of Lorain, George Baisden of KY, 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Chuck "Chuckie" Combs in 1981, his mother, Martha Willoughby, and a brother Gene Deaton.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Sheffield Church of God, 2280 N. Abbe Rd, Sheffield Lake, where funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Rev. Michael LeBuhn, senior pastor of the church, and Rev. John McGlumphy, will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. The Marine Corps League will conduct full military honors there.
