Charles D. Fleming, age 71, of Lorain, passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 29, 2020.
Born December 28, 1949 in Richmond, Virginia, he lived in Cleveland before coming to Lorain in 1964. Charles served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation and Letter of Commendation. After the service, he lived in Lorain and Sandusky counties before settling in Mansfield where he lived for 40 years before moving back to Lorain 3 years ago.
Charles retired from TC Energy having worked as a welder for 20 years. Following his retirement, he worked part time at Cabala’s in Avon. He was a member of the American Legion Post 8 in Wellington and was life member of the VFW 9943 in Mansfield. Charles enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving is his wife, Fay Yee; daughter, Lisa Kurtz; sisters, Susan Brown, Betty Ann Dunn, Martha Cutlip and Linda Bragg; step sons, Terry (Melanie) Yee, Jeremy (April) Yee and Joshua (Jennifer) Yee; 8 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thurmond and Edith (nee Given) Fleming; brothers, Henry “Jimmy” Fleming and Robert Lee “Bobby” Fleming; and a sister, Kathryn Tharp.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain.
Burial with military honors will be on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, Ohio.
