Charles "Charlie" Pelton, age 81, of Lorain, died on Thursday, November 15, 2007, while under the care of New Life Hospice.
He was born on July 6, 1926 in Lorain, Ohio, where he has been a resident for his entire life. He attended Lorain High School.
He was in the Navy as a carpenter's mate 3rd class SEA BEES. He served in Guam and received the American Area Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Army ribbon and WWII Victory Ribbon.
Charlie was employed at US Steel for 42 years. During some of his time there, he worked as a mechanic in the diesel garage.
He was a member of the Lorain County Vintage Motor Scooter Club and the National Vintage Motor Scooter Club.
Charlie enjoyed boating and racing boats, along with flying. He even had his private pilot's license. He also enjoyed his motor scooter clubs and working on all types of engines.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia (nee Sylak), 2 sons; David, of Grafton, and Paul, of Lorain, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Guy Pelton, his parents; Marline D. and Pearl (nee Herman) Pelton, a sister, Norma Toth, and a brother, Allan.
The family held private services. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, is handling arrangements.
