Charles L. Spears, age 80, of Lorain, died on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Hospice of Western Reserve -Hospice Care Center, Olmsted Falls, following a brief illness.
He was born on September 27, 1929 in Rogersville, TN, moving to Lorain 49 years ago. Charles was employed at Lorain Shipyards for 20 years prior to working for Stevens Painton, where he retired in 1993.
He was a member of the New Apostolic Church, Lorain.
He enjoyed being a mechanic, loved working on his cars, building grandfather clocks and collecting coins.
He is survived by his wife: Dorothy (nee Coulter), daughter: Brenda Hale of Lorain, 2 grandchildren, Charles and Jaclyn Hale, both of Lorain and 1 great grandson: Connor Hale, 3 brothers: Hugh Lee Spears, Doug Spears, both of TN and Ray Spears, of Alabama, sisters: Betty Price of TN and Mary Spears, of Alabama, he is also survived by several step-children.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Howard and Leona (nee Lawson) Spears, 1st wife: Fern "Jack" Spears and brother: James Spears.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 16, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Visitation will also be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 am, at New Apostolic Church, 3929 Leavitt Road, Lorain. Priests Adam Welch and Jeffrey Sandrock, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp, Ohio.
