Charles D. Stickler, 78, of Lorain, died Thursday, May 29, 2008 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center West, Lorain.
He was born June 14, 1929 in Johnstown, PA, coming to Lorain in the early 1940's. Following graduation from Lorain High School in 1949, Charles served in the US Army with the 3rd Armored Division at Fort Knox Kentucky during the Korean War.
He retired from US Steel/Kobe in 1991 where he worked as a stationary engineer. He was a member Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Lorain, the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104, the American Legion Post 118, Fraternal Order of Eagles Grand Aerie 1442, and the Veterans of Foreign War Post 1662.
He was an avid walker who had just accomplished 10,000 miles, and enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians in his spare time and woodworking.
Surviving is his wife of 40 years, Estella (nee Hutchison); sons, Ronald (Cor) Michaels of Amherst, Donald (Jeannie) Michaels of Sandusky, and Michael Michaels of San Diego; daughters, Lynn (Al) Flowers of Elyria, Mary Jo (Jim) Hudak of Amherst, and Patricia (Jim) Pisegna of Amherst; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jennings D. Stickler and Anna S. (nee Maloy); and his step father, David Wise.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 am followed by mass at 11:00 am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 418 W. 15th St., Lorain. Rev. Fr. Robert Glepko will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The Amherst Veterans Council Military Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
