Charlotte A. Marko, (nee Popivchak), age 72, of Avon Lake, died Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at Fairview Hospital, Cleveland, after an illness of 5 weeks.
She was born on July 14, 1934 in Carnegie, Pennsylvania, and lived in Cleveland for several years, before moving to Avon Lake in 1957.
She graduated from West Liberty State University in West Virginia with an Associate Degree in Applied Sciences. She worked as a dental hygienist for 20 years in the greater Cleveland area, retiring in 1968.
She was a long-time member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Lorain and other parishes where her husband served as priest. She faithfully and devotedly worked with her husband in his priestly ministry in several parishes in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida; including cantoring, providing religious instruction and conducting Bible studies.
Charlotte was a nationally certified ceramic teacher with a specialty in overglazing with lusters. She was an exquisite gardener. She loved and tended arrays of multi-colored flowers.
Surviving is her husband of 52 years: Rev. Fr. Andrew Marko, sons: Michael and Andrew "Drew" Marko, both of Avon Lake, daughters: Michelle Moran, of Amherst and Celeste Englehardt of Vienna, Virginia, 5 grandchildren, 3 brothers: Dr. Charles Popivchak, Jr. and Joseph Popivchak, both of Kintnersville, Pennsylvania and John Popivchak of Oakdale, Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by her father: Dr. Charles, Sr. in 2001 and her mother: Anna (nee Sudeak) in 2003.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 26, 2006 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. with Parastas at 6 p.m. and the reading of Psalms from 9-10:00 p.m. at The Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic Cathedral of St. Josaphat, 5720 State Road, Parma, Ohio. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Cathedral with The Most Rev. Robert M. Moskal, bishop officiating. Concelebrating will be her husband, Rev. Fr. Andrew Marko, together with other priests and deacons from the area.
Committal services will be Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at 11:30 a.m. at Mount St. Macrina Cemetery, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
