Cora Elsie Hicks

Cora Elsie Hicks (nee Byrd), 74, of Amherst, died Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Amherst Manor following a lengthy illness.
She was born February 4, 1935 in Oneida, TN, she made her home in Amherst for over 30 years.
Cora worked as a Nurse at Amherst Manor Nursing Home. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving is her daughters, Lois Arbogast, and Betty Conard; sons, Terry, and Doyle; 3 grandchildren and one great grandson; a sister, Neva June Norris; and a brother, L.C. Byrd; half sisters, Ottie Jean Meade, Louise Giles, Mary Jo Predmore and Carline Byrd.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Doyle "Buck" Hicks in 2004; parents, Esaw and Lola (nee Jeffers) Byrd; a brother, JD Byrd.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11:00 am at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Dovin Funeral Home to help defray the funeral expense.
