Darlene Mervis (nee Hause), age 81, of Lorain, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at her residence while under the care of New Life Hospice following a year long battle with cancer.
She was born June 13, 1926 in Bainbridge, Ohio, coming to Lorain in 1943 where she has lived since.
Darlene was a homemaker and enjoyed her grandchildren, gardening, bingo and fishing.
Surviving are three daughters, Victoria Evan-Iwanowski of Altamonte Springs, Florida, Barbara Oray of Sheffield Lake, and Kathleen Widdowson of Lagrange; she also considered her niece, Kay Lakin of Hillsboro, Ohio as her fourth daughter; also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a brother, James Hause of Caldonia, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Clement in 1983; her parents, John S. Hause in 1966 and Ada B. (nee Hopper) Hause in 1978; a brother John W. Hause in 1965; and a sister, Dorcas Steffy in 1966.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 1:00 pm in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. Rev. Luis Maldonado, deacon of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lorain, will officiate. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain is handling the arrangements. In leu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to New Life Hospice, 5255 N.
