David F. Kowalczyk, age 72, of Lorain, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain, following a short illness.
Born February 19, 1946 in Lorain, he lived in Lorain his entire life. David was a 1964 graduate of Lorain High School.
David worked as an inspector in the bar mill at Republic Steel for 46 years, retiring in 2015. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Lorain, and a former member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Lorain. He was also a member of United Steel Workers Union Local 1104. He loved spending time with his granddaughters, and enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching television.
Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Martha (nee Lukesic); sons, Bryan D. (Lisa Short) and Matthew D. (Kelli Jekins) both of Lorain; 8 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter; and a brother, John of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Helen (nee Kudlo) Kowalczyk; a brother, Stanley; and a sister, Dorothy Kowalczyk.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain where funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:30 am followed by mass at 10:00 am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 418 W. 15th Street, Lorain. Rev. Robert Glepko, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
