Dennis P. "Otis" Ward, 59, of Amherst, died Saturday, June 23, 2007 at his residence while under the care of New Life Hospice following a lengthy illness.
He was born August 7, 1947 in Lorain; and lived in Amherst since 1976.
He graduated from St. Mary High School, Lorain in 1965 and received an associate degree from Lorain County Community College.
He served in the US Army for several years during the 1960's.
Dennis worked as a millwright at General Motors in Sandusky, retiring in January of this year. Prior to that, he worked as a millwright at Lorain Works US Steel for 10 years. He had also owned and operated B & M Grill on 14th street in Lorain from 1972 through 1975.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst, the United Auto Workers Union Local 913, United Steel Workers Union Local 1104, American Legion Post 83 of Sandusky, life member of Amvets Post 47 of Lorain, Fraternal Order of Eagle's 444 in Sandusky, and the Lake Erie Moose Lodge 552 of Lorain.
He enjoyed bowling, golfing, traveling and was an avid sports fan. He also enjoyed entertaining his friends at his residence.
Surviving is his wife of 35 years, Monica (nee Scherrer); his son, Scott of Amherst; daughters, Cindy Ward and Jaime Ward both of Amherst; a brother, Michael Paul "Mickey" (Sherry) Ward of Lorain; 2 nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Ward in 1992, and Kathleen (nee MacKenzie) Ward in 2000.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 7-9 pm and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 9:15 am in the funeral home followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. Rev. Fr. Larry Martello, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
