Donald A. Kozich, age 58, of Lorain, died on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a 8 month illness.
He was born on March 21, 1949 in Lorain and has been a lifelong resident.
He was a 1967 graduate of Admiral King High School, Lorain. He served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970, spending 18 months in Germany.
He worked as a crew leader for the city of Lorain in water distribution for the past 21 years. Prior to that he had been employed as a foreman in the coke plant at U.S. Steel and also had worked at the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant.
Donald was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Lorain.
He had a passion for baseball and spent 10 years of his life managing and coaching several different youth teams. His city league and traveling teams won several tournaments throughout the years including two City Championships (1985, 1988) and two State Championships (1989,1992). He liked to golf and participated in many leagues over the years. He enjoyed collecting antiques and refinishing antique furniture. He, along with his wife, have been antique dealers under the name of Yesterday's Charm inside of Shinko's Country Store in Avon since 1989. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Nancy (nee Stumphauzer) of Lorain, mother, Marge Bulzomi of Lorain, stepmother, Helen Kozich of Lorain, sons, Donald A. II of Lorain and Daniel R. of Columbus; daughter, Denise M. of Lorain, brothers, Edward of Avon, John of Lorain, and Daniel of Irvine California, sisters, Kim Catanzarite of Lorain and Cindy Vidovich of Toledo, and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father: Donald E. Kozich on April 11, 2007, stepfather, Michael A. Bulzomi on March 28, 2004, granddaughter, Hanna Nicole Kozich, maternal grandparents, Louis and Elizabeth Kuhn, and paternal grandparents, John and Elsie Kozich.
Family and friends may call Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where services will be held on Monday 9:30 a.m. followed by a 10 a.m. mass at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 East Erie Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Ed Goldbach of Holy Cross Church, Elyria will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, with full military honors.
