Dorothy Mae Merkle (nee Young), age 72, of Lorain, died on Thursday, August 10, 2006 at her home following a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was born on June 11, 1934 in Pittsburgh, PA. She moved to Lorain when she was a child, and has spent the remainder of her life here.
She was employed at Burger King, retiring in 1994. Dorothy was an avid bowler. She was very involved with the Girl Scouts. She volunteered for the Friends of Metro Parks in Lorain County where she was on the Board of Trustees for many years.
She is survived by her daughters: Diane (Steve) Mercer of Convoy, OH, Cindy (Gerald) Grace of Lorain, son: Michael (Linda) of Sheffield Lake, OH, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, brother: Raymond of Avon, OH, sister: Virginia Veres of South Amherst, OH and beloved dog Fancy.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Adam G. Merkle on Oct. 14, 1984, parents: Melvin and Harriet Young and sister: Carol Young.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 11, 2006 from 4-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
