Edward Balchak, 99, peacefully passed away on March 12th after a very brief battle with old age. Born in Uniontown, PA, he was the 6th child from Slovak immigrants, Emery and Anna Balchak (nee Pular). He was married for 61 years to Rosemary Balchak (nee Greulich). He is survived by his sons, John of Sacramento, California, James of Lorain, son Robert, daughter-in-law Wendy, and grandson Emery of Vermilion.
Edward served in the US Coast Guard during World War II. He retired as a draftsman engineer at Thew Shovel, US Steel, Moen, and Four Star Engineering. In his retirement, he and his wife Rosemary traveled extensively in England, Scotland, Wales, Spain, Italy, France, Turkey, Costa Rica, Mexico, and the Florida Keys.
As a devout Catholic, he was a member for 70 years of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain, and served as an usher for over 50 years, and was a member of the men's club. He worked as a volunteer for the Lorain Historical Society, the Lorain County Metroparks, and the Stocker Center at LCCC. He was a season ticket holder for 25 years at Playhouse Square, and his passion and love were gardening, nature, and the outdoors. Enjoy sports and conquered pancreatic cancer at age 95.
He's now reunited with his loving wife Rosemary and they will forever bask in the glory and live for eternity in the loving palms of God's hands.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 10:00 am until the time of mass at 11:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Avenue, Lorain. Burial will follow in Emwood Cemetery, Lorain.
