Edelia "Delia" Varela, (nee Rojas), age 82, of Lorain, died on January 10, 2006 at her residence, while under the care of New Life Hospice.
She was born on December 23, 1923 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, moving to Lorain in 1948.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, where she was in the Cursillo Movement.
Delia enjoyed cooking, sewing and babysitting.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years: Juan Varela, daughters: Luz C. Clark and Gloria E. Marrero, both of Lorain, sons: Ray Cruz, of Cleveland, James Cruz, of Lorain, 20 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, brothers: Edwino Rojas, Andre Rojas, both of New York, sisters Gloria of New York, and Fila of Florida, step-daughters: Lolita and Nerida both of Florida and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers: Edwin Rojas, Michael Rojas, grandson: James Bonilla, great-grandson: Mathew S. Marrero, and her parents: Ventura and Isabel (nee Reyes) Rojas.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 13, 2006 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Friends will also be received on Saturday from 9 - 9:30 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain, until the time of mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
