Edward Paul Jachym, 91, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends on Sunday, August 2, 2009.
A strong will and most capable mind and body, Ed will be greatly missed.
He was born in Lorain on December 30, 1917 and graduated from Lorain High School in 1936. He worked as a welder at Lorain Works US Steel with 43 years of service before retiring. Ed was a one- in- a -million man, a diverse, staunch idealist, who loved to learn, read, and socialize. He was lively, vibrant and smart. He had many interests including being an avid gardener. He enjoyed photography and video work, being a part time plumber, and a great hobbyist, involved in many clubs. In his spare time Ed was adept with the many projects he accomplished.
Ed was an active life long member of St. Stanislaus Church, being involved in many aspects of church work, including councilman. He was also a very active Holy Name Society member who was named "Man of the Year" in 1977.
He volunteered many years in the Lorain Democratic Party and was also a Precinct Committee Man. He was also very involved in the Golden Agers Pensioners Club and at times served as president, sergeant at arms and chaplain. He was a member of United Steelworkers Union Local #1104 and the Polish National Alliance.
Ed lost the love of his life, his wife of 63 years, Rose (nee Kalo), on April 7 of this year. He will be sadly missed by his loving children, Dr. Edward T. (Margaret) of Mansfield and Christine (Albert) Jachym-Sentzel of Huron. He also will be greatly missed by the Jachym and Kalo families along with brothers, John and Walter, both of Lorain, sisters, Mildred Komar and Cecilia "Honey" Knight, both of Lorain, Jeanette Young of Florida and Stella Paysor of North Carolina. He had a special relationship with his brother in law, Thomas R. Kalo, his son, Tommy and wife Mana. Ed is leaving behind many loving nieces and nephews. The family has lost his strong direction in this Era.
The family will received friends on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 from 4-8 p.m. with a Holy Name Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, Ohio. Services will be held on Thursday at 9:45 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, E. 28th & Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr. David Novak, Administrator will officiate with burial following in Calvary Cemetery.
