Edward V. Maslinski, age 83, of Lorain, died on Sunday, January 29, 2006 at Akron City Hospital, Akron.
He was born on February 5, 1922, in Lorain, where he has been a lifelong resident.
He was a 1940B graduate of Lorain High School.
Edward served in the United States Army during World War II. He participated in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland Ardennes and Central Europe and was awarded the distinguished unit badge, the American Theater Campaign Metal, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Metal with 5 bronze stars.
He was employed as a machinist in the #1 machine shop at Lorain Works US Steel for 43 years, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Lorain and the United Steel Workers Union Local #1104. He was member of St. Stanislaus Holy Name Society for over 50 years and formerly served as treasurer. He received the St. Stanislaus Holy Name Man of the Year Award in 1986.
He was a licensed amateur radio operator and enjoyed golfing and playing the harmonica. He also built and flew radio controlled airplanes.
Surviving is his son Robert of Lorain, brother: Leo Maslinski of Vermilion.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years: Margaret (nee Demchek) in 1985 and a sister Victoria.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where the Holy Name Society will conduct a service at 7:30 p.m. The family will also receive friends on Wednesday, from 9:30 am until time of mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, E. 28th Street and Elyria Avenue. Rev. Fr. Kevin Shemuga, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The American Legion #30/VFW Post #451 will conduct full military honors.
