Edward Peery, age 84 of Elyria, died Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain following a lengthy illness.
Born Aug. 7, 1920 in Nauvoo, Ohio, he has lived in the area since 1957.
He served in the US Army as a Sergeant with the Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron 15th Air Force during World War II. He participated in the battles and campaigns of Tunisia, Algeria-French Morocco, Naples-Foggia and Rome-Arno, having received the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Easter Campaign Medal with 4 bronze service stars.
He worked in customer service at BF Goodrich, Avon Lake for 28 years, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 12 of Elyria, and enjoyed camping and fishing.
He is survived by his brother; Arthur Peery of Lucasville, Ohio, his sister in law; Nora Gruber of Lorain, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Helen (nee Howell) in 2001, his father, Fred Peery in 1935, and mother; Bessie (nee Souder) Peery in 1963, and 9 sisters.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Rev. Richard Henry, pastor of Amherst Church of the Nazarene, will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
