Edward S. Silvasy, age 86 and lifelong resident of Lorain, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Mercy New Life Hospice, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
Born August 25, 1930 in Lorain to the late Gabor and Julia (nee Boras) Szilvasy, Edward attended Lorain High School. Edward worked in the B.O.P Shop at Lorain Works US Steel as a metallurgical laboratory technician for 40 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104. In 1952 Edward attended his first Indianapolis 500 race, faithfully returning each year for over 55 years. Besides auto racing, Edward loved fishing.
Surviving is his son, Edward Silvasy Jr of Lorain; daughters, Judy (Fred) Junker of Parma Heights and Jane Diaz of Parma; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; and a sister, Violet Sedivy of Lorain.
In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois (nee Rice) Silvasy in 1984; his second wife, Mildred (nee Kirkpatrick) in 2009; and a brother, George in 2013.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:00 pm until the time of services at 2:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain. To send online condolences go to
