Elbert Hansel "Abby" Edwards, age 72, of Lorain, died on Friday, April 16, 2010 at his home, under the care of Cleveland Clinic Hospice, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on May 3, 1937 in Clinchco, VA, moving to Lorain in 1955.
Elbert was employed at US Steel as a burner and crane operator in the conditioning dept. from 1955 until his retirement in 1986. After his retirement he worked at Unibus.
He was a member of West Ridge Enterprise Baptist Church, Amherst.
Elbert loved going to church, singing and going fishing. He was also a avid Cleveland sports fan, most of all he devoted his life to his family and church.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Diana G. (nee Dennison), sons, Dennis (Denise) Edwards, of Lorain, Jeffrey Edwards of Lorain, daughter, Kimberly (David) Malinowski of Amherst, 12 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters, brothers, Elmer of Amherst, Danny of Clinchco, VA and sister, Dixie Edwards, of Birchleaf, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Hettie (nee Barton) Edwards, 2 step-sons, Mark Brown in 2004 and Michael Brown in 2001, 2 brothers, Buford and Robert and sister, Lois Mullins.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 19, 2010 from 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at West Ridge Enterprise Baptist Church, 46280 Telegraph Road, Amherst at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Bill Fraley, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
