Elizabeth Bascone (nee Ploszaj) 81, of Lorain, passed away Monday, October 10, 2016 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
Born February 16, 1935 in Lorain, she lived in Elyria and Lorain most of her life. She graduated from Lorain High School in 1953. Elizabeth worked as a teachers aid for the Lorain Board of Education at Charleston, Madison and Garfield Elementary Schools for 20 years, retiring in 1998. Prior to this she worked as an assembler at General Industries for 6 years and the former Polish American Citizens Clubs as bartender.
Elizabeth was a member of the St. Peter Parish, Lorain, Lakeland Women's Club and Tea & Tidbits, Polish National Alliance, and Circle of Friends at the former St. Joseph Hospital and Lorain Community Hospital for 20 years. She loved collecting Hummel figurines and recipes. She also enjoyed trips to casinos and volunteering at picnics and bake sales.
Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Anthony; sons, Peter J. (Darlene) of Amherst, Anthony G. (Susan) of Fremont and Stanley J. (Joan) of Cleveland; 6 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Mary Anna (nee Iwaneczko) Ploszaj; brothers, John Ploszaj in 1992 and Peter Ploszaj in 1984; and a sister, Jeannette Sennhenn in 1991.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of services at 12:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Craig M. Hovanec, pastor of St. Peter Parish, Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. To send online condolences go to
