Elizabeth M. "Betty" Garbak, (nee Pekarik), 89, of Lorain, died Wed. May 27, 2009 at Community Health Partners, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 22, 1919 in Lorain, living her entire life here, and graduated from Lorain High School in 1937B.
Betty worked at Thew Shovel Co. during World War II where she ran the blue print dept. Later, she worked for O'Neal's then May Co. as the manager of the women's shoe dept. from 1969 through 1979. Following that, she worked for the License Bureau at Pekarik's Garage in Lorain, retiring in 1985.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Lorain, and enjoyed playing pinochle, gardening, cooking and traveling.
Surviving is her son, Joseph of Lorain; a daughter, Patricia Przychocki of Strongsville; grandchildren, Jeffrey Przychocki, Cheryl Shnieder, and Russell Przychocki; and 3 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in 1961; parents, Eugene and Elizabeth (nee Bayus) Pekarik; and a brother, Eugene.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 9:30 am until the time of services at 10:30 am I the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, followed by mass at 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Daniel O. Divis, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
