Elizabeth M. "Bette" Poley (nee Mariotti), 88, of Lorain, died Friday, June 4, 2010 at Community Health Partners, Lorain, following a short illness.
Born May 3, 1922 in Uniontown, PA, she moved to Lorain in 1926 where she lived since.
She was a graduate of Lorain High School Class of 1942A. Upon graduation, Bette worked as a cosmetic consultant for Smith & Gerhart, Lorain. She worked there for several years until the Midway Mall in Elyria was opened. Bette was one of the first employees hired by the Higbee Company and remained there for over forty years until her retirement from Dillard's in 2006.
She held the position of sales clerk and spent the majority of her career in the Country Club Designer department. She enjoyed shopping and had a passion for consulting the latest fashions.
Bette was a member of St. Peter Church and Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church having sang in the choir at both. She volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital for many years. She was especially fond of her nieces and nephews and enjoyed spending time with great nieces and nephews.
Surviving is her sister Mary B. Mager of Amherst, brother Edward (Renee) Mariotti of Vermilion. Nieces Marie Prager of Kennebunkport, ME, Sandra Mager of Amherst, Susan Goldstein of Westport, CT, Paulette Mager, Michele Mager and Lynne Walters all of Amherst; Nephews Paul Mager of Amherst and Marty Mariotti of Elyria, several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Zaccario and Marie (nee Cherubini) Mariotti. Her first husband Sam Sedano, an infant son Dennis Sedano, her second husband Jack Poley, sisters Thelma Mariotti, Adeline Fazekas, and brothers Harry and Martin Mariotti.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Craig Hovanec, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
