Elmer H. Murphy, 68, of Lorain, died Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a short illness.
He was born August 15, 1939 in Rosman, South Carolina, and moved to Lorain in the early 1950's .
Elmer worked as a welder for the American Ship Building Company in Lorain for 15 years. Following that, he worked as a welder at Lorain Works US Steel for 15 years. He then worked as the manager at Imperial Battery in Lorain for 4 years, then for Automotive Equipment in North Ridgeville for 5 years.
He attended the Sheffield Church of God, and was a member and Stewart at the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104.
He enjoyed bowling, auto mechanics, working in his yard, and growing roses.
Surviving is his son, Randall of Avon; daughters, Michelle Williamson of Lorain, and Rhonda Neal of Sheffield Twp; 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 4 step grandchildren; brothers, Charles Murphy of Tulsa, OK, and Earl Murphy of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilliard Murphy and Hattie Jean (nee Frizzell); a granddaughter, Bonnie Murphy in 1984; a brother, Lester Murphy; and a sister, Betty Murphy.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Mark Leonhardt, pastor of Sheffield Church of God, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridgehill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
