Ernest W. Berg

Ernest W. “Billy” Berg, age 65, of Lorain, passed away Monday, August 10, 2020 at Mercy Health - New Life Hospice, Lorain, following a long ongoing battle with bladder cancer.

Born Dec. 8, 1954 in Lorain, he lived in Lorain his entire life.  He was a 1974 graduate of Clearview High School.

Billy worked as a cleaner for Lorain City School for 28 years.  Prior to this, he worked for PC Campana, Ideal Machine Shop.

He was a member of the VFW and Amvets both in Sheffield Lake.  Billy enjoyed camping, fishing, playing pool, going to casinos and decorating for the holidays, had a love for all nature and all his companion animals.

Surviving is his wife of 40 years, Laura (nee Prill); Sister Susan Vanwinkle, Brother in law Wayne Prill, Sister in laws Linda and Jim Oliver, Sheila Massimiani, Gayle and Raymond VanNiel, longtime friend Frank Shonebarger; nieces and nephews, Mila Marie and Tony DeRubis, Heather and Robert Griffith, Gina and Charlie Strausser, Jason and Xiaolan Vanwinkle, Tommy Collins, Michael Collins, Melanie and Duncan MacRae, Ashley and Eric Ortiz, and Wes and Kristina Massimiani; 14 great nieces and nephews and 10 great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Ada (nee Doneyho) Berg; and a brother, Gilbert Paul Berg Jr., Mother and Father in law Rose Marie and Robert Prill.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Friday at 10:00 am.  Rev. Lorrie Bandagski, will officiate.  Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.  Mask will be required along with social distancing for the visitation and funeral services.
