Esther Louise Uleski, (nee Coonrod), 83, a life long resident of Lorain, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Lake Pointe Health Center following a lengthy illness.
Esther was born June 20, 1924 in Lorain, to the late Raymond Coonrod and Elsie (nee Hanson) Coonrod. She graduated in 1942 from Lorain High School and then served in the US Army Women's Army Corps during World War II. She received the American Theater Medal, Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Esther was the first W.A.C. to join Crile Hospital in Cleveland as a physical therapist. She was a member of the Lorain Senior Center and enjoyed reading and gardening.
Surviving are her sons, Raymond (Barb) Costello of Lorain, and Roy (Brenda) Costello of Vermilion; daughters, Karren Pinkerman of Kentucky, and Louise (Dan) Shopoff of Lorain; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward S. in 1988; and a sister, Mabel Rigo in 2004.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. Rev. Dale Warrick, pastor of Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Elyria will officiate.
