Etanislao "Don Tano" Rivera Perez, 89, of Lorain, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2013 at his residence while under the care of Grace Hospice following a long illness.
Born March 13, 1923 in Naranjito, Puerto Rico, he came to Lorain in the 1950's. He worked for Penn Central Railroad and retired from Lake Terminal Railroad as a group leader in 1985 after 14 years of service. Prior to that, he worked for various greenhouses.
Etanislao was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, and a part of the Cursillo movement at the church. He was also a member of the United Steelworkers Union Local 1104-2. He enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, music and singing Christmas songs, playing dominos, and spending time with his family and his grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife 68 years, Juana (nee Vazquez); his sons, Miguel (Nancy) Rivera of Wakeman, Etanislao (Helen) Rivera Jr. of Grafton, and Johnny Rivera of Lorain; daughters, Ana L. (Phillip) Santiago, Irma A. Rivera, Carmen C. (Juan) Gonzalez, Gladys E. (Hector) Feliciano, Diana M. (Jose Louis) Milete, and Angelina Perez all of Lorain; 25 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Angel and Victor both of Puerto Rico; and sisters Josepha and Candelario both of Puerto Rico.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Evaristo and Catalina (nee Perez) Rivera; brothers, Nardo and Barin; sisters, Benedicta, Carmela, and Pilar; and a great granddaughter, Rachel Bryer.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 8:45 am in the funeral home followed by mass at 9:30 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. William Thaden, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
