Eugene "Gene" Michael

Eugene "Gene" Michael, age 84, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at University Hospitals, Elyria Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Born on September 17, 1932 in Lorain, Ohio, where he remained a longtime resident. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Lorain in 1950, and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953 where he was a Sgt and Honorably Discharged. Eugene obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from The Ohio State University in 1958.
Gene began his career in radio and television in various Northeast Ohio markets. After returning to Lorain he worked at Nordson Corporation as Director of Marketing and Communications for nearly 20 years. He later went into business for himself doing commercial writing and voicework (Gene Michael Communications). Gene was also active in the Business/Advertising and Professional Association where he earned his designation as a Certified Business Communicator (CBC).
He was active in various civic organizations including the Lorain Jaycees, the Lorain Chamber of Commerce, Admiral King Booster Club, Lorain Port Authority levy campaigns among others. He served as emcee for local community events including the Miss Lorain County pageants.
Gene was most happy vacationing with his family at his home in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Oberlin Golf Club. He loved to fish and was a member of the Polish Fisherman's Club and was a Charter member and life member of the North American Fishing Club. He enjoyed sports, especially watching the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Indians.
Eugene is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sandra (Bach) Michael; sons, Brian (Karen) Michael of North Ridgeville and Glenn Michael of Lorain; a daughter, Maureen Michael of Avon; brother, Lawrence (Sue) Michael of North Olmsted; sisters, Theresa Kunziar and Irene (Joe) Wysocki of Vermillion.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Victoria (Beady) Michael; and brother Jerome Michael. A reception in his honor will be held privately at a later date.
