Eugene N. Pall

Eugene N. "Gene" Pall, 85, of Lorain, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at his residence while under the care of New Life Hospice following a short illness.


He was born Feb. 19, 1923 in Los Angeles, CA, coming to Lorain as an infant.


He graduated from Lorain High School, class of 1941A.
Gene served in the US Army as a corporal during World War II. He was in the 44th Division in the European Theater (France). He was a P.O.W. in Germany at Stalag 4A, was transferred to Stalag 5A from which he later escaped. He was a recipient of multiple Purple Hearts, a bronze star, and a prisoner of war medal.


He was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, and the former St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, the Collier Chapter and Barbed Wire Buckeyes Chapter of the American Ex-Prisoner of War, Veterans of Foreign War Post 451 of Lorain, American Legion Post 30 of Lorain, and the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104.


For the past 20 years, he had spent his winters in Naples, Florida. He enjoyed traveling, riding his bike, reading novels, swimming, shuffle board and ball room dancing.


Surviving is his son, Kevin of Lorain; daughter, Gayle Inman of St. Petersburg, Florida; a grandson, Dean Evans of Dayton; 2 great grandchildren, Chloe and Liam Evans; brothers, Richard Pall of Lorain, and Stephen "Pitch" Pall of Naples, Florida.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Wilhelmina B. "Willa" (nee Chonko) in 2007; parents; Julius Pall and Elizabeth (nee Timko) Pall; brothers, Julius Pall, Anthony Pall, and Thomas Pall; step brothers, Stephen Kulics, Albert Kulics and William Kulics.


The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Saturday at 9:30 am. Rev. Fr. Charles Henkle, OFM Conv., associate pastor of the The Catholic Church of St. Peter, Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
