Evelyn Tomlin (nee Bakowich), age 87, of Lorain, passed away on Saturday, June 26, at Anchor Lodge, after a lengthy illness.
She was born on July 11, 1922 in Senecaville, OH. She grew up in Cleveland, moving to Lorain in 1951. She then moved to Holiday, FL in 1984, before finally returning to Lorain in 2003.
Evelyn was a beautician in Lakewood for 15 years and had also worked at Andorka Bowling Alley in Lorain, for 10 years. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Evelyn was also a member of the VFW Post 451 Ladies Auxiliary, where she was the former president.
She enjoyed cake decorating, macramé, crocheting, and bowling.
Evelyn is survived by her 2 sons; Leonard Justin and Gregory Alan, both of Lorain, 3 grandchildren; Laurie Tomlin, of Lorain, and Gabriel and Micah Tomlin, of Pickerington, OH, and 1 great grandson, Justin Tomlin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Justin M., in 1995, her parents; Walter and Mary (nee Kolesar) Bakowich, and her brother, Leonard, who was killed during WW II.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 1, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, at the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 451 Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a service at 7:00 pm. Closing prayers will be held Friday, at 9:30 am, in the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 am, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Avenue, Lorain. The Rev. Fr. Richard E. Hudak, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date, in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, 5255 N. Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
