Ferdinand "Fred" W. Gruber, age 89, of Lorain, died on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria, following a short illness.
He was born on July 11, 1917 in Sandusky, Ohio and had lived in Lorain for over 50 years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army.
He was a carpenter by trade and worked in construction from 1948 until retiring in 1983.
Fred was a member of St. John Roman Catholic Church and Carpenters and Joiners Union Local 305.
Surviving is his wife of 60 years Nora (nee Howell), son: Donald Gruber of Port Clinton, a daughter: Sharon Marcum of Kentucky, 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, brother: Carl Gruber of Pompano Beach, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Philip and Clara (nee Brimgardner), and a brother: Art Gruber.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 28, 2006 from 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where services will be conducted at 8:30 p.m.
