Francisca Garza (nee Alicea), 80, of Elyria Township, died Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at University Hospital, Cleveland, following a sudden illness.
Born Sept. 11, 1931 in Barrabquitas, Puerto Rico, she lived most of her life in Lorain before moving to Elyria Township in 1994.
Francisca retired from JC Penny in Elyria, where she worked as a sales associate for over 15 years. Prior to that, she worked for Januzzi's Shoes as the children's shoe specialist.
She was an active member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, where she was a member of the Cursillo Movement, Legion of Mary, and served on the funeral committee.
She enjoyed volunteering her time with the church and the hospital. She also enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
Surviving is her sons, Ramon Jr. and Tomas (Helen) both of Lorain; daughters, Rosa Garza and Melisa Krasienko both of Lorain, Rita (Thomas) Baker of Amherst, and Gloria Hill of Columbia Station; 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandson; a brother, Adrian of Vermilion; sisters, Elena Morales of Vermilion, Maria Aviles of Puerto Rico, Felicita Garza and Catalina Soto both of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ramon Garza Sr. in 2007; parents, Jose E. Alicea in 1984 and Evangelia (nee Cartagena) Alicea in 1983; daughters, Maria Magdalena Garza in 1958, Esperanza Garza in 1960 and Lucia Garza in 2011; a son, Daniel Garza in 1998; brothers, Porfirio Garza in 1978, William Alicea in 2000 and Ramon Alicea; and a sister, Cornelia Garza in 1980.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 4-8 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Saturday at 8:15 am followed by mass at 9:00 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Al Krupp, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
Francisca was an advocate of organ and tissue donation, and following her passing, she participated in the procurement to benefit others through LifeBanc.
