Francisca Silva, (nee Cortes) age 73, of Lorain, died on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at her residence, while under the care of New Life Hospice, Lorain.
Born October 10, 1936 in Morovis, Puerto Rico, she has been a Lorain resident since 1956.
Francisca was a member of Templo Bethel and very active in church activities. She along with her husband served as pastors there for 5 years. She was a Sunday School Teacher for children and adult women. Francisca was also part of the founding leadership team of House of Praise International Church.
She enjoyed knitting, crafting (for family gifts) and collecting porcelain dolls. She was also known for having a green thumb when it came to nursing indoor plants back to health.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Edilberto; sons, Jose E. of Lorain, Rev. Gilbert of Amherst, Ismael of Sheffield Village, Samuel of Amherst, Mervin of Lorain, Angel M. of Sheffield Village and Edilberto Jr. of New Jersey; daughters, Elba I. Ortiz of Oberlin and Yvette Haddix of Lorain; 29 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gonzalo and Gregoria (nee Perez) Cortes; and a brother, Jose Cortes.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm in the House of Praise International Church, 4321 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 am in the church. Rev. Gilbert Silva and Minister Edwin Marrero will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
