Francisco Pops Velez, age 68, of Lorain, died on Monday, January 3, 2005 at his residence, while under the care of New Life Hospice, following a brief illness.
He was born on June 4, 1936 in Hormigueros, Puerto Rico. He had lived in Lorain for most of his life.
He had worked at the former American Ship Yards, Lorain for 9 years. He then was employed at Ford Motor Company in Avon Lake for a number of years.
Francisco loved to cook, enjoyed fishing, playing checkers. He also enjoyed carpentry work and repairing furniture.
While living in Puerto Rico he was an altar server at La Iglesia Monserrate Church in Hormigueros.
He is survived by his sons: Michael Velez, Ivan Jeter, both of Lorain, daughters: Elizabeth Cruzado, of Lorain and Nancy Lopez of Amherst, 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 2 brothers: Angel Luis Velez, of Elyria, Jose Tonito Velez, Jr. of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Jose and Idalia (nee Cruz) Velez.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, January 7, 2005 at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
