Frank Avalos, age 73, of Lorain, died Monday, October 31, 2005, at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, after a long illness.
He was born on May 25, 1932 in Hasslet, Texas. He moved to Lorain in 1932 where he resided for the rest of his life.
Frank was a member of the Sonshine Baptist Church, Lorain, for 18 years where he was a trustee and usher for the church. He also enjoyed driving the church bus for events.
He was employed at US Steel for 28 years as a crane follower in the high testing department, retiring in 1979.
He enjoyed watching television, especially Monday Night Football.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia Ann (nee Gray), of Lorain, his 3 daughters; Mrs. Sue (Jack) Steffen of Lorain, Mrs. Brenda (Bill) Askew, of North Ridgeville, and Carol Avalos, of Lorain, his son, Frank A., (Tracy) of North Olmsted, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 brothers; Charles, of San Diego, CA and Peter, of Lorain, and his 6 sisters; Genoveva Zamora, of Ft. Worth, Texas, Herminia (Timoteo) Alvarado of Lorain and Mary Hembree, of Amherst, and Angela Casalduc, of Sandusky, Delores LaBanc and Mercedes Rollins, both of San Diego, CA.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Avalos in 1971 and Mary (nee Camacho) in 1981, a great grandson, Gabriel Perez, on August 21, 2004, a brother, Vincente Camacho in 1993, sisters; Angelina Ruiz and Katherine Espinosa.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where services will be held the Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Dave Straub, Pastor of the Sonshine Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
